I decided to open this thread in way to find some advices, concerns, in doing a SAP Kernel Update activity in a Solaris platform with Oracle DB (11.2g). I already did a lot of SAP Kernel Updates in other platforms, like Windows or Linux (RHEL) and now I need to update a SAP Kernel in Solaris platform. I would know if the process of doing this activity is the same like in Linux platforms, for instance, after the substitution/replacement of all kernel files to the new ones, is necessary to run (as 'root') the ./saproot.sh <SID> inside the /sapmnt/<SID>/exe path?!

Can you give more recommendations please?!

At our company we are performing backups to disk via RMAN. All good, BUT our server, which holds the backups

and the archivelogs is constantly running out of space. According to the company's policies, the retention period

is 14 days, all the backups and archivelogs older than that, can be carelessly deleted. Hence, I have the following

2 questions:

1) I found the following 2 parameter in init<SID>.sap:

# retention period in days for archive log files saved on disk

# default: 30

# cleanup_disk_archive = 30

# retention period in days for database files backed up on disk

# default: 30

# cleanup_disk_backup = 30

Are those the correct parameters ?

2) How is this functionality implemented ? Do brbackup and brarchive only overwrite backups / archivelogs older

than the value specified. Or they are searching for everything older than the retention period in the backup destination

and then purge it... ?

I am asking this question, because we have old backups before and after SAP upgrade and it would be very bad,

if those backups get purged when setting those parameter(s).

after an upgrade I am experiencing the situation that when want to lock at the Log files via transaction DBACOCKPIT

  -> Jobs

    -> DBA Planning Calendar

      -> <any job in the past with logs>

        -> Tab = "Action Log"

          -> Click on "Show Action/Detail Log"

I get an error message "Error SHOW_RESULTS_BRCONNECT: Exception condition "SYSTEM_FAILURE" triggered"

Has any one of you an idea how to resolve this issue?

I have a requirement to implement a High Availability for ECC on Solaris server. We are running ECC on HANA with distributed installation (ECC on Solaris, HANA on Linux). The High Availability on the HANA side is already taken care of. I would like to know the HA configuration option for the ECC. We will be installing Primary application server (CI) , ASCS, ERS and  3 Additional Application servers (Dialog instances) All of these will be installed with Virtual IPs on Solaris.I am interested in knowing about HA configuration options. As of now, Our plan is to install ASCS on node A and ERS on node B of a cluster with fail over configured for the SPOF components.We also want to configure failover for the CI and Dialog Instance, as we do not want any user sessions (work processes) to be cancelled when any of these instances fail. For this, Is it possible for me to configure Virtual IP based failover of the CI and Diolog Instances from the Production to Quality so that when the Prod failsover to QA, the QA will shutdown and be used for Prod? I would like to know how this kind of configuration works. How can QA be configured such that it can be used for QA as well as a passive node for Prod failover? I would like to know the high-level of how this process happens and how the filesystems and networks are configured for this to happen. Could you please shed some light on this topic.

we have a need that we want to alllow multiple login in sap to more than 100 users who share their logins, as we add the users to

login/multi_login_users only it takes 256 characters, adding more than this value does not come to effect.

On a perfectly clean installation of NetWeaver 7.0, running on Solaris 10 x86 and Oracle 11,

(distributed environment - DB and OS are running on different hosts, there is no cluster)

I am trying to apply the latest bundle patch for oracle, as recommended by the installation

guide:

Has somebody ever encounter a similar situation ? Can you give me some idea what

to do, it is not a permission problem, as the .zip file has permissions 777 and the

owner is oraSID:dba.

I´m doing an update of Oracle Instant Client (note 819829 - Oracle Instant Client Installation and Configuration on Unix) from the version 10.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.2 in a Solaris v10 (5.10 SPARC) and for this activity, I need to change/set the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH to add the new location of the new oracle client path! But that´s the point here... I need some help from you because I don´t know how to set an environment variable in a Solaris operation system, I thought that was with the command setenv or export, like this:

setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/sap/AZQ/SYS/exe/run:/usr/sap/AZQ/SYS/exe/uc/sun_64:/oracle/client/11x_64/instantclient

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/sap/AZQ/SYS/exe/run:/usr/sap/AZQ/SYS/exe/uc/sun_64:/oracle/client/11x_64/instantclient

But none of them worked!

Can you tell me please how can I set a environment variable in Solaris 10 platform?

And other question... how can I set this environment variable permanent in Solaris 10? Which user file(s) I must edit/change and what I must add on it?

Dear all, on some of our SAP Servers we got wrong values in RZ20 from data collection method CCMS_ORA_BACKUP_arch_ful_ct. from time to time. The method reported wrong values for Archiver Destination full but at that time there is till enough free space in the related filesystem oraarch.

I have recently installed a Solution manager system (Solman 7.1) on Solaris 11.2 platform with Oracle 11.2.0.4 as database and DB is configured as 3 nodes RAC cluster. I have got 3 VIPs for ASCS, SCS and DVEBMGS00 instances.

I have successfully installed SAP system on RAC with 3 active DB instances but I am getting some issues while relocating SAP DVEBMGS00 instance from one node to another using SAPCTL utility. When I relocate DVEBGS00 from Node-B to Node-A, It moves along with its VIP to Node-A and tries to start there but then it fails to start sapstartsrv there and it moves back VIP and instance on Node-B.

I tried running DVEBMGS00 on Node-A by making CRS down on Node-B and Node-C and it is successfully running but when CRS is active on all 3 Nodes, DVEBMGS00 instance runs only on Node-B. It is not getting relocated to Node-A and Node-C.

One more issue: When DVEBMGS00 moves back to Node-B, it shuts down DB instance1 from Node-A and starts on Node-B. So Node-B gets two DB instance running from same Node. It is weird.

In my company's other systems SAP systems, by default ASCS,SCS and DVEBMGS00 instance run from Node-A.

Is it because of I run SAPInst from Node-B while installing DVEBMGS00 instance??

My Installation sequence was below.

ASCS01 installation on Node-A using virtual hostname (VIP was pointing to Node-A at the time of installation)

SCS02 installation on Node-A using Virtual Hostname (VIP was pointing to Node-A at the time of installation)

ERS03 for ASCS installation on Node-B using physical hostname

ERS04 for SCS installation on Node-B using physical hostname

DB Instance creation on Node-A

DVEBMGS00 installation using virtual hostname on Node-B (VIP was pointing to Node-B at the time of installation)

Installation was done on local disks so I manually replicated required files on another nodes. I tested SAP runs on all 3 nodes (I tested by bringing two cluster nodes down)

Could you please suggest me what could be the reason. Is there any installation sequence wrong? Only thing comes in my mind is I installed DVEBMGS00 on Node-B and I copied required files on Node-A and Node-C manually (that I do when I install HA system on Linux).

Error was found in SM21 of our BI test system.

Database error 1578 at FET.

ORA-01578: ORACLE data block corrupted (file # 31, block # 3921)

ORA-01110: data file 31: '/oracle/BDR/sapdata3/sr3_15/sr3.data15'

ORA-26040: Data block was loaded using the NOLOGGING option.

Can you help me resolve the problem?

I have asked our Solaris admins to reboot, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. I tried googling, but I can't find nothing.

I have also unpacked a new healthy SWPM, but it throws the same error, so I am out of ideas...

We had an issue where our  SAP ECC system was crashing due to LWP value reaching more than 56K.
The Unix team found from dtrace logs that the segkpsize had reached limit and hence the system was crashing. As a solution, the unix team    increased the value of segkpsize : 524288 and now the lwp upper limit is around 128K. The segkpsize was earlier set to segkpsize: 262144.
4. However now that we are tracking the lwps count on the CI-DB server, we are observing that between 12:00 and 20:30, the value of lwp's peaks upto 70K  and we are concerned that it would kep increasing.
5. On checking with  ps -leafo nlwp,user,pid,args | sort -nk 1 command we are seeing around 175 to 200 oracle processes running with 258 lwp units each.

We have some Queries and concerns to investigate incase this issue reoccurs or the number of lwp increases.

1. Is there any normal acceptable value for lwp count in heavly used SAP system. Our load at the moment is

prstat 2 5 | grep lwp

2. what are the factors in SAP that control the lwps count.
3. We can identify the process running with high number of lwp is there any way to relate them to SAP process and reduce the lwps consumption.
4. is this a Solaris 10 limitation.
